egg on Gravois Avenue in St. Louis caters to those who take breakfast and brunch seriously, but with a twist that leans into bold flavors beyond the usual pancakes and eggs. This spot firmly lands as a full-service restaurant, where the menu pulls inspiration from Spanish and North African influences, making it a standout among typical morning options in the MO 63104 area.

The atmosphere at egg is casual yet thoughtfully curated, featuring local artwork that gives the space a distinctive neighborhood feel rather than a generic chain look. It’s the kind of place where you can stop in early on a weekday or plan a laid-back weekend brunch and feel comfortable either way. Despite its popularity, turnover is steady and seating rarely feels cramped or rushed.

What draws many locals and visitors here is the inventive approach to traditional brunch fare. Items like the Elcerdo Hash, loaded with carnitas, potatoes, spinach, jalapeños, and two poached eggs, balance hearty and spicy elements. The Chakchouka — a savory tomato and bell pepper stew topped with eggs and options like seasoned lamb sausage (merguez) or beef — exemplifies their willingness to push brunch boundaries. Meanwhile, more familiar dishes like their breakfast tacos and pulled pork omelette come with unique twists in seasoning and presentation.

Drink offerings also reflect a thoughtful approach to the brunch experience. House cocktails like the Bloody Maria or their take on the Beermosa bring interesting flavor profiles, while coffee lovers can appreciate well-made lattes (including an orzata latte) and café mochas. Non-alcoholic options include fresh-squeezed juices and a selection of teas, rounding out the morning or midday meal with something for everyone.

Service tends to be attentive and friendly, reinforcing egg’s vibe as a place where people come not only for the food but also for a relaxed and personable experience. One-person shifts in the front can happen during quieter times, but the overall flow remains smooth, and servers are experienced in guiding guests through a menu that might be unfamiliar on first look.

egg works best for those craving a brunch that avoids the cliché and delivers hearty, well-seasoned plates with a distinctive regional flair. It suits locals who appreciate craft breakfast cocktails or coffee paired with dishes you won’t typically find at your run-of-the-mill café. Whether it’s a casual weekday breakfast or a weekend brunch date, the combination of creative cooking, local art, and an unpretentious yet lively atmosphere makes for a genuine St. Louis morning experience.

Was visiting the area and of course brunch is always a must. Was visiting downtown and this was on the way from the hotel and glad I checked it out. Kind of a Spanish blend of breakfast which is great with me. Love the basics but also enjoy when things get switched up for brunch. Great menu items the atmosphere was a great vibe and service was super kind. Bloody was was definitely unique but not my fav other than that great stop on my trip.

This restaurant has such a cool brunch vibe. There are traditional options and some innovative choices. We ordered The Burger and the Merguez Chakchouka. The burger was overcooked (I ordered medium temp) but it was delicious. The Chakchouka had a great runny egg that mixed well with the warm tomato stew. The “merguez” means a highly seasoned lamb sausage that is 80% lamb and 20% beef. Honestly one of the best ethnic dishes I have ever tried!!! I highly recommend it. Ample free parking but no pets and no patio seating.

We stopped in right after they opened on a Wednesday. Only.one person walked in before us (who Im sure is a regular). There was one man running the front. Not sure if he also cooked our food, but the food was delightful! Prices were about average ($12-14) per person.

Absolutely delicious and unique food I couldn't make at home (pork belly benedict is a must-try!), love their lattes, gorgeous interior, always busy but never a wait for a table (evidence that they're popular, I think), kind service, food comes out quick. We came here on our first date and we've been back so many times since!

Came for breakfast and it did not disappoint! We ordered the Hash. Two different kind, two different takes and both were absolutely delicious. This was worth the drive. I love the decor and the art, its from a local artist which made it even better. Beautiful restaurant.

Got the shrimp and grits and cornbread eggs benedict and it was great, good sized portions for the price and good flavor.
